Gregory Helms continues to defend the Cruiserweight Championship with a chip on his shoulder. In his most recent challenge, Helms defeated Super Crazy at Judgment Day, using a powerbomb into a pinning combination with his feet on the ropes to get the win. Earlier that weekend, Helms defeated Psicosis on Velocity, giving him two wins in a row over the Mexicools. Since Judgment Day, Helms has been dominant on both SmackDown Velocity, furthering his claim of being the greatest Cruiserweight Champion of all-time. Helms even took on Rey Mysterio in a Champion vs. Champion Match on the June 16 SmackDown, but was unable to defeat the World Champion.

On May 12, the three men,Paul London, Brian Kendrick & Super Crazy, fought once again, and Helms sat in on commentary. After telling Michael Cole & Tazz that he would fight all three men if he had to, Helms watched as Super Crazy rolled up Nunzio to get the victory and the match at Judgment Day.
